Ithildin 1.0

Ithildin is a dictionary of the languages found in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. It is based on the Eldamo.org lexicon, providing a nearly exhaustive searchable collection of the vocabulary from those languages.

The original vocabulary featured in this application was created by J.R.R. Tolkien and meticulously compiled thanks to the contributions of numerous individuals, prominently including Christopher Tolkien and the authors of Parma Eldalamberon and Vinyar Tengwar (such as Christopher Gilson, Carl Hostetter, Arden Smith, Bill Welden, Patrick Wynne, and others).

Paul Strack's Eldamo lexicon aims to systematically arrange this vast material, encompassing numerous words across almost fifty languages. This application serves as a practical tool for exploring and utilizing this extensive linguistic resource.

• Extensive coverage: includes the complete Eldamo.org vocabulary (48 languages)
• Search functionality for both Elvish words and English translations
• Diverse search modes: wildcard (diacritic-insensitive), strict (diacritic-sensitive), beginning- and end-of-word matching (useful for finding rhyming words), verbatim, and regular expressions
• Incorporates community-contributed words (neo-Sindarin, neo-Quenya)
• Color-coded indication of roots, archaic terms, community-generated words, and word reliability (whether a word is attested or speculative)
• Tapping on a word reveals a detailed screen featuring glosses, examples, inflections, alterations, cognates, elements, related words, variations, and notes (if available)
• For linked words in details or notes, tapping opens the corresponding detail screen
• Local storage of configuration settings within the app
• No internet connection required
